An attempt to gain a new perspective on a crop that is an omnipresent symbol of rural life,​ Rest Easy Bumpkin ​ creates an intimate moment between an individual and a plant that is everywhere but often overlooked. I planted sweet corn instead of field corn to honor the origins of the crop. The vast majority of corn planted around the world today is grown for biofuels and livestock feed with only a small fraction alloted for human consumption (much of which is used for high fructose corn syrup). Strips of used conveyor belt that I took from my family farm are secured to a stock tank and create a hammock for the viewer. The soil and base of the corn stalks align with the viewer’s eye line.
