2019-2020. Performance.
Invasive explores the history of agricultural practices on the North American ecosystem while demonstrating the possibility of healing and recovery.
For my performance, I painted poison parsnip sap onto my calf in the shape of the English Flag. I then wiped my boots on a welcome mat covered in Roundup and walked up a grassy hill, burning my footprints into the earth while the image of the flag burnt into my skin.
The resulting sunburn eventually faded, my footprints filled in with grass, and by the next summer both sites were healed.
